IHI, Itochu team up to bid for Turkish mega-bridge project

Japanese consortium aiming to build, operate world's longest suspension bridge

TOKYO -- A Japanese business consortium that includes heavy machinery maker IHI and trading house Itochu will bid for a Turkish project to build and operate what will be the world's longest suspension bridge.

Turkey plans to build a 2,023 meter bridge over the Dardanelles Straits, in the western part of the country. Total project cost is expected to reach 300 billion yen to 500 billion yen ($2.63 billion to $4.39 billion).
