TOKYO -- Nippon Life Insurance plans to elevate Satoshi Asahi, an executive vice president versed in domestic insurance operations, to president on April 1, Nikkei has learned, as the Japanese company seeks to solidify a core revenue source at home while it rapidly invests abroad.

The board of directors will vote on the appointment soon. Hiroshi Shimizu, the current president, will become chairman. Yoshinobu Tsutsui, presently chairman, will step down in April and is expected to serve as a special adviser upon approval at a policyholders meeting in July.
