Investing in Bangladesh calls for care, not panic

TOKYO -- The day before the deadly July 1 terrorist attack on a cafe in Dhaka, I suggested a meeting with a Japanese contact in the Bangladeshi capital that evening but was turned down flat.

"Please make the appointment during our business hours," the person said, albeit politely. My contact was simply taking the precaution of avoiding going out after dark. The gruesome incident the following day was a stark reminder that it pays to be prudent.
