Japan Display's 'fresh start' looking more like bailout

State-backed innovation fund weighs own exit strategy

TOKYO -- The public-private Innovation Network Corp. of Japan is banned from using its taxpayer-backed resources for a corporate bailout.

So the innovation fund's aid for Japan Display can be only justified as supporting the company's medium- to long-term growth strategy focused on launching an organic light-emitting diode business, as well as increasing its existing LCD business.
