Mitsubishi Electric, NEC among companies working to develop software platform

TOKYO -- Six Japanese companies involved in factory automation and information technology announced an agreement Monday to establish a consortium for developing and promoting an open software platform for computing in the manufacturing sphere.

The Edgecross Consortium will be launched on Nov. 29 by the six founders -- Mitsubishi Electric, NEC, and IBM Japan, automation equipment maker Omron, as well as Oracle Japan and Advantec.
