Japan's Nidec to quintuple press machine output

Investment will add three plants in Spain, US by 2020

OSAKA -- Motor manufacturer Nidec, shoring up its industrial machinery business, plans to build three press machine factories in Spain and the U.S.

With an eye on growing demand for high-tensile steel used in automobiles, the Kyoto-based company will add two plants in northern Spain -- where it acquired Arisa Press in 2015 -- as well as a factory in the U.S. state of Ohio. American subsidiary Nidec Minster, brought into the fold in a 2012 acquisition, plans to produce Arisa's large press machines and market them in the U.S. and Mexico.
