TOKYO -- A growing number of big Japanese restaurant chains have been opening outlets in countries other than China as the market becomes increasingly competitive.

     Having already established footholds in China and Taiwan, companies are now looking to Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa, aiming to cultivate relatively untapped markets in an effort to establish diverse revenue sources.
