Japanese universities, firms teaming up to train engineers

TOKYO -- Major universities are starting an initiative to help science and engineering graduate students gain professional experience by taking part in R&D at companies.

     Twelve schools, including the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University, and eight corporations, including Mitsubishi Electric and Toray Industries, will establish on Wednesday a consortium that will match students with companies seeking talent in their fields.
