Marginalized by e-commerce, store dummies are getting smarter

TOKYO -- Mannequins are evolving. No longer content to stand stiffly and quietly in department stores, today's mannequins move, talk and even see.

In early October, Nanasai, a major mannequin maker based in Kyoto, western Japan, exhibited a talking mannequin at the annual Ceatec information technology and electronics expo near Tokyo.
