HONG KONG -- David Webb, a well-known Hong Kong-based activist investor, is closing down a database of corporate and government information he has run for more than two decades due to the ravages of cancer.

The Webb-site Database, opened in 1998, grew into a free-to-use directory of people, organizations and statistics of Hong Kong. Webb collected and organized a vast trove of publicly available material, providing a valuable resource for investors, researchers, journalists and even regulators.
