MUMBAI (NewsRise) -- State-run Coal India's annual production and sales crossed 600 million tons for the first time, helped by surging demand from power producers last month.

Output at the world's largest coal producer rose 9.6% to 79.2 million ton in March, its highest monthly volume ever reported, while sales grew 7.8% to 59.6 million ton, the company said a stock exchange filing. That helped annual coal output reach 607 million tons and sales 608 million tons.
