SYDNEY -- Australia's government on Monday announced more than a billion dollars in support for the country's aluminum industry to cut emissions, its latest move to boost the country's green supply chain capabilities.

Under the 2 billion Australian dollar ($1.23 billion) program, aluminum smelters will be eligible for a production credit for every tonne of aluminum made with renewable power over the next 10 years. The production credit will provide "targeted support" for Australia's three producers: Rio Tinto, Tomago Aluminium and Alcoa.
