Darjeeling's general strike ends too late to save tea harvest

NEW DELHI A three-and-a-half month general strike demanding a separate state in the eastern Indian region of Darjeeling ended Sept. 27, after local authorities and residents reached a settlement. But the deal comes too late for this season's leaf harvest in one of the world's most famous tea-producing regions.
