Nickel faces first supply shortage in 6 years

A bull run in nickel is putting upward pressure on stainless steel prices.

TOKYO -- Global nickel inventories continue to shrink while demand keeps growing, putting upward pressure on the metal's price.

Data from warehouses designated by the London Metal Exchange showed nickel inventories had fallen to a two-year low of 363,216 tons as of Friday, down 17% from the start of the year.
