SYDNEY -- Western governments must provide more support for the lithium industry if they want to break China's grip on the supply chain, according to mining veteran Ken Brinsden.

His warning comes amid a price slump that has led a number of players to scale back or postpone production plans, including a recent decision by the world's third-largest lithium company to mothball a project in Western Australia.
