BANFF, Canada -- Downward pressure on the dollar is mounting ahead of Wednesday's meeting of Group of Seven finance ministers and central bankers here, as market watchers speculate that the U.S. will push Japan to address the weak yen.

Amid a stream of negative news including a credit rating downgrade for U.S. government debt, observers are waiting to see what message the meeting will send to try to stabilize markets.
