Yen appreciates to 149 level on hawkish BOJ signals

TOKYO -- The Japanese yen strengthened past 150 to the dollar on Thursday afternoon after hawkish comments from a Bank of Japan official made the previous day signaled a rate hike.

The yen appreciated to 149.92, a high since Dec. 9, up around 1.10% from the previous day, before paring gains to trade in the lower 150 level as of 5 p.m., Japan time.
