TOKYO -- The yen's purchasing power has fallen to a historic low as it continues to lose value against the dollar and other currencies amid prolonged deflation at home.
The real effective exchange rate came in at 73.19 in August, according to data announced by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) on Thursday.
