Dow closes down 430 points on omicron fears

Biden spending plan setbacks discourage investors

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks retreated significantly Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing down over 430 points as the market grew jittery over the spread of the omicron coronavirus variant. 

The Dow ended trading with losses of about 1.2%, or 433 points. The decline was the index’s third straight and followed a 1.5% drop on Friday.
