HONG KONG/SHANGHAI -- Hong Kong and mainland China stocks rose on Friday after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would "rather not" follow through on his threats to impose new tariffs on Chinese imports.

Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng index jumped more than 2% during the day before closing up 20,066.19, up 1.86%. The Hang Seng Tech index performed even better, rising about 3%.
