TOKYO -- Japanese stocks tumbled 4% on Monday, as investors grew jittery ahead of a fresh round of U.S. import tariffs expected this week.

The benchmark Nikkei Stock Average closed the day's trading down 4.05%, or 1,502.77 points. The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index (Topix) declined by 3.57%.
