TOKYO/SEOUL -- Shares of Japanese and South Korean automakers slid on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on all cars shipped to that country in his latest trade salvo.

Smaller Japanese automakers dependent on the U.S. for sales but behind in onshore production were hit hard. Subaru and Mazda each closed Thursday's session down around 6%. Honda declined 2.5% and Toyota, the country's largest automobile manufacturer, was off 2%.
