Yen strengthens as BOJ, Fed stand still

The yen strengthened to an 18-month high against the dollar.

TOKYO -- Bank of Japan and U.S. Federal Reserve decisions this week to keep interest rates unchanged, combined with the start of an extended holiday period in Japan, has caused the yen to gain rapidly on the dollar.
