TOKYO -- The Nikkei Stock Average's rise to a fresh 33-year high has been fueled by an influx of capital from overseas investors drawn to a market with strong earnings, low interest rates and expectations for an economy emerging from deflation.
"Retailers have implemented price hikes to absorb rising costs, and there's a rush of foreign-demand-focused companies upgrading their forecasts," said Ichiro Takamatsu, CEO of Singapore-based hedge fund Village Capital "The solid fundamentals of Japanese companies have been confirmed."
