Cathay on Wednesday reported a net profit of HK$2.35 billion ($298.71 million), compared with a loss of HK$1.26 billion in 2017.

HONG KONG (Nikkei Markets) -- Cathay Pacific Airways on Wednesday said it will press ahead with a restructuring plan that helped the Hong Kong airline post its first annual profit in three years, adding more services on popular routes and inducting more fuel-efficient aircraft.

While the business environment will likely remain challenging this year because of currency fluctuations, uncertainties related to global trade tensions and competitive pressures, the airline's "transformation" plan launched in 2017 should help it deliver sustainable improvements in performance, Chairman John Slosar said.
