HONG KONG (Nikkei Markets) -- Hong Kong shares edged higher after a choppy morning session on Tuesday, tracking a rebound in U.S. equity index futures and shrugging off the worst single-day drop since 1987 on Wall Street on Monday.

The Hang Seng Index added 1.1% to 23,306.48 by noon, heading for its first gain in five days. The gauge changed directions at least six times. Heavyweights Tencent Holdings and AIA Group rose 3.3% and 2.2%, respectively, contributing most to the index's gains by points.
