Nikkei Asia300 Index slips on caution ahead of US-China trade talks

China's factory activity grows at better-than-expected pace in April

HONG KONG (Nikkei Markets) -- Asian stocks outside of Japan edged lower, as investors braced for the outcome of a meeting on bilateral trade between the U.S. and China this week.

The Nikkei Asia300 Index slid 0.2% to 1,420.65, while the ASEAN gauge for Southeast Asian companies shed 0.1%. Most regional markets were closed on Tuesday for Labour Day. Market sentiment remains cautious ahead of a meeting on trade between U.S. officials including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and Chinese officials in Beijing on Thursday and Friday.
