TOKYO -- The Nikkei Stock Average continued to rise on Friday, temporarily ascending 707 points or 1.85% from the previous day's close to 38,865, just 50 points short of an all-time high of 38,915 set in December 1989.
Tokyo stocks have kept rising faster than expected, partly due to new overseas investors joining trading and prompting analysts to successively raise their projections for the closely watched index.
