TOKYO -- Japanese semiconductor stocks propelled the Nikkei Stock Average to its highest point of the year on Wednesday, but market watchers say what is really moving the sector is Nvidia.

The Japanese benchmark added over 823 points, or 2.52%, to close at 33,519, ending above 33,000 for the first time in roughly two months.
