HONG KONG -- Chinese property developers are dangling unconventional perks to entice homebuyers as the market downturn stretches into a fifth year, from bare-minimum down payments to free iPhones and even more exotic benefits.
Earlier this month, a developer in the southern city of Zhongshan advertised a minimum down payment of just 9.9 yuan ($1.4), mirroring the "9.9 yuan price war" that has rippled through Chinese consumerdom.
