BANGKOK -- The 120 billion baht ($3.5 billion) office-shopping-hotel complex that Thai Charoen Corp. (TCC) Group opened Friday in the Thai capital will serve as a test of how successfully the conglomerate's founder is passing the baton to the family's next generation.

One Bangkok, the most expensive private-sector complex in the country, is opening in stages through 2026. Boasting roughly 900 stores and 250-plus restaurants, it will be home to a Ritz-Carlton from Marriott and Andaz lodgings by Hyatt Hotels.
