Tokyo-area apartment rents sink for fifth straight month

Short supply of new units brings down average from June high

TOKYO -- Average apartment rents in the greater Tokyo area fell 0.9% in November compared with the month before, dropping for the fifth consecutive month from a record high.

The figure from real estate data provider Tokyo Kantei fell to 3,535 yen ($22.94) per square meter per month, the lowest since July 2023. In June, they had climbed to their highest level since data collection began in January 2004.
