TOKYO -- The proposed acquisition of Seven & i Holdings by Canada's Alimentation Couche-Tard highlights how even the largest Japanese companies are vulnerable to takeovers, given their relatively low valuations compared with counterparts overseas.

Seven & i operates the 7-Eleven convenience store chain in Japan, and is one of the country's leading retail groups.
