Bears temper speculators in Tokyo market's winning streak

Trading volume thins as market climbs higher

TOKYO -- Even with the benchmark index for Japanese equities on the upswing for a historic 16 consecutive trading days, few would call the market overheated.

The Nikkei Stock Average added 108 points Tuesday to finish at 21,805. But during the entire winning streak, it has risen only about 7%.
