Deflation fear factor back in play

TOKYO -- The prospect of Japan being far from vanquishing deflation is scaring investors amid the ongoing plunge in stock and oil prices. These investors are dumping growth-minded companies and searching for ones paying solid dividends.

     A morning rebound in the Tokyo market was short-lived Thursday, with the Nikkei Stock Average losing nearly 400 points to close at 16,017.
