Japan flea market app Mercari applies to go public in Tokyo

Company aims for monster IPO by end of 2017

Mercari has opened a pop-up cafe in Tokyo in hopes of gaining more fans.

TOKYO -- Flea market app operator Mercari has applied to list on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in what could be Japan's largest initial public offering of the year.

Mercari's IPO is expected to be valued at more than 100 billion yen ($899 million), overtaking the current year-to-date high of 98.8 billion yen by Sushiro Global Holdings.
