Market Scramble: Chemical sector wins out amid emerging-market skepticism

TOKYO -- It may be too early to celebrate recent gains in the Tokyo market, given that emerging economies whose recoveries promise a boost for Japanese earnings could backslide once again.

So in the absence of better long-term choices, investors are putting money into chemical manufacturers and other companies standing to benefit from temporary tightness in commodities markets.
