Shareholder rewards entice investors ahead of fiscal year-end

TOKYO -- Stocks of companies that offer generous shareholder rewards are being snapped up as the end of the fiscal year nears.

The Nikkei Stock Average has fallen for three straight sessions this week. But bargain hunting by individual investors has underpinned the market. While the Nikkei index declined 0.8% Wednesday to 16,642, KDDI rose 2.8% one day after announcing plans to bolster shareholder perks.
