TOKYO -- Electronic parts makers surged Friday on the Tokyo Stock Exchange with the release of the iPhone 7 and word of record preorders in Japan.

Apple unveiled the smartphone at a Sept. 7 event in the U.S. But the stock market had only a disappointing reaction at first as the view spread that the device had little new to offer.
