TOKYO -- Asian stock markets are grappling with confusion from U.S. President Donald Trump's unpredictable tariffs and their potential to cause a recession in that country.

Puneet Singh, director of quantitative research at Societe Generale in Singapore, said the components of the firm's volatility estimator, including overnight and intraday risks, are all going up in the U.S.
