NEW YORK -- Warren Buffett plans to increase Berkshire Hathaway's holdings in Japan's five largest trading houses, the billionaire investor said Saturday in his annual letter to the company's shareholders.

Berkshire, for which Buffett serves as chairman and CEO, started investing in Itochu, Mitsubishi Corp., Mitsui & Co., Sumitomo and Marubeni in 2019. Combined holdings had a market value of $23.5 billion as of the end of last year. Buffett met with the leadership of the companies when he visited Japan in April 2023.
