Marubeni to overhaul power plant in Myanmar

Gas-fired facility's output to nearly triple

TOKYO -- Japanese trading house Marubeni will upgrade a natural-gas-fired power plant in Myanmar, aiming to strengthen its power-related business on expectations of growing electricity demand in emerging Asia.

The roughly 2.5 billion yen ($21.9 million) order will be financed with a low-interest loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
