TOKYO -- Hitachi will by next March make all its aluminum products manufactured in Japan from "green aluminum" produced through less carbon-intensive processes than conventional methods, Nikkei has learned.

The Japanese industrial giant uses about 10,000 tons of aluminum domestically to make everything from refrigerators and washing machines to railroad cars. Cutting emissions from aluminum production is a key step to the company reaching its goal of net-zero carbon emissions across its entire supply chain by 2050.
