TOYAMA, Japan -- Japanese nonferrous-metal processor MERF will start making and selling copper alloy bullion in the U.S. through an acquisition there, looking to tap demand related to American companies prodded by President Donald Trump to bring production home.

MERF -- which changed its name from Kurotani at the start of the year -- in January acquired California Metal-X (CMX), which produces and sells copper ingots in the U.S.
