TOKYO-- JFE Steel will acquire an Indian manufacturer of high-performance steel used in transformers jointly with local company JSW Steel for about $480 million by the end of next year.

The Japanese steelmaker announced the deal Friday. The buyers hope to tap demand from infrastructure improvements.
