Nippon Denkai to build $150m EV battery material plant in U.S.

Location changed to Georgia and investment increased from earlier plan

Nippon Denkai controls a 40% market share in copper foil for EV batteries in North America.

TSUKUBA, Japan -- Nippon Denkai will build a $150 million plant in the U.S. that will make copper foil for electric vehicle batteries, the Japanese materials supplier said Wednesday.

The plant's construction will start in September in Augusta, Georgia. Samples will start shipping in summer 2024, and production capacity is set at 9,500 tonnes a year.
