TOKYO -- Global crude steel production fell for the first time in seven years in 2022 on the back of China's strict zero-COVID policy, the latest industry report shows.

According to the World Steel Association, global crude steel output slipped in 2022 to 1.87 billion tons, down 4.2% from the previous year.
