HONG KONG -- Amazon.com said on Thursday that it has stopped supplying vendors in China with its Kindle e-readers and will halt e-book sales in the country in a year's time, becoming the latest U.S. technology group to pull back from Asia's largest economy.

"Amazon China's long-term commitment to customers will not change," the company said in a statement on its WeChat social media account, without elaborating on the reason for its retreat.
