TOKYO -- Forty percent of major Japanese mobile game developers have taken steps to get around the in-app payment processing provided by Apple and Google, a Nikkei survey shows, a trend that is weakening dominance in app payments by the top players.

Nikkei looked at the top 30 game developers in terms of app revenue. Of these, 12 have adopted web-based payments in certain apps to skirt Apple and Google payment services that come with high fees.
