TOKYO -- Toho, the Japanese film studio that claims Godzilla as its intellectual property "treasure," took back the merchandising rights sold to overseas companies and set up a system that allows it to sell related goods, and advertise and distribute the film itself.

Now, in the wake of its Academy Award for best visual effects for "Godzilla Minus One" -- the first such award for an Asian film -- Toho's overseas business expansion is set to pick up even more momentum.
